FAQ about ice bathing and cold training

Do I need to take any health precautions when ice bathing?

If you are unsure about your health, you should consult your doctor beforehand - especially if you suffer from cardiovascular diseases.

Do I need to know how to swim for ice bathing?

No. Go to a lake or something similar where the water ideally does not flow and that you can get in and out of quickly. You are just standing in the water - you do not need to be able to swim.

Better to jump in quickly or go in slowly while ice bathing?

Neither. In any case, don't jump - it threatens your heart. Walk in with a normal walking pace and when the water reaches the belly button level, bend your knees so that you are in the cold water, including your shoulders.

How long should I stay in the water while ice bathing?

It depends on your constitution and the environmental conditions. As a general rule of thumb, if the water is 5 degrees, you can stay in it for 5 minutes, 3 minutes at 3 degrees, and so on. I recommend not to stay longer than 3 to 4 minutes the first time.

When is the best time of day for ice bathing?

The best time of day for ice bathing is in the morning. Why? Because cold has a stimulating effect on a physical and mental level. So it is the ideal start to the day!
